Relations with Liechtenstein
Diplomatic relations between the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Sovereign Order of Malta were established in June 1994.
In 1999, the Grand Master of the Order of Malta Fra’ Andrew Bertie paid an official visit to the Prince Hans Adam II.
In 2011, Prince Regent Alois of Liechtenstein received the Grand Master Fra’ Matthew Festing in the twelfth-century Vaduz castle overlooking the principality’s capital. During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Cultural Affairs Aurelia Frick met with the Grand Chancellor Jean-Pierre Mazery and the Grand Hospitaller Albrecht Boeselager. Programmes carried out in developing countries were examined, analysing possible synergies and joint ventures.
On 12th December 2012, the then Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Liechtenstein Maximilian Turnauer and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Liechtenstein Post, Dr. Martin Meyer signed a postal agreement.
On 14th October 2014, the Foreign Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Aurelia Frick, visited the Magistral Palace. The minister was received by the Grand Chancellor Albrecht Boeselager and by the Grand Hospitaller Dominique de La Rochefaucauld-Montbel.
Four years later, confirming the excellent relations between the Order of Malta and Liechtenstein, a second meeting between the Foreign Minister Frick and Grand Chancellor Boeselager took place at the Magistral Palace in Rome. Focus of the meeting was the development of projects for integrating migrants and refugees.
On 16th February 2019, the Foreign Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Aurelia Frick, and the Grand Chancellor followed up on the projects on migrants and refugees in a working meeting held at the Munich Security Conference.
On 18th February 2022, the Foreign Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Dominique Hasler, and the Grand Chancellor held a meeting aside the Munich Security Conference.
On 17th February 2023 the Grand Chancellor had a brief meeting with H.S.H. the Prince Regent of Liechtenstein at occasion of the Munich Security Conference.
